Fitting over your own teeth, crowns are tooth-shaped caps that protect and improve the appearance of teeth with large fillings, cracks, or discolouration of the enamel. Weak or sensitive teeth that react to hot, cold or biting on can be protected with an attractive and strong crown.

Crowns are also used to cosmetically enhance your teeth’s appearance and your smile. They are usually made of porcelain, so the selected colour will blend with your own teeth. Sometimes for strength, a crown can have a metal or gold core, while for a back tooth where appearance doesn’t matter, a gold or metal crown could be used.

Your dentist will consult with you to recommend the best order of your treatment plan if you have several teeth that are heavily filled and need a crown.
